The 5:19 Fierce Show

It looks like I don't need to bother streaming this tomorrow as the Beeb have kindly made it available on their website. This performance has a mirrorball and Adam in his AMA suit looks fierce as ever and very much in charge. The sound mix is a little strange, and I think it's because it's a dry feed from Adam's mic. I'm not keen on the set as it looks teenage-bedroom cluttered, the feel of which is at odds with Adam's high-maintenance glam. He lags a little behind the music at times and the vocal is rather straight-up but nonetheless good and held very steady as he dances. Visually, this is one of the best FYEs as we get so many beautiful close-ups of Adam's expressions under stunning lighting and he looks amazing. I'm glad to see that he's managed to tune those expressions just perfectly for the cameras, looking much more natural and less forced than he does in the music video and finding the right level of camera interaction.

  1. Thanks - your descriptions are always spot-on, perfect and rather professional. Makes me wonder - do you have journalistic experience or show-biz experience or are you just totally gifted in the writing department? Not to mention the video and sound editing department. You should be breaking down and writing up about him AND get paid to do it, from the BBC and the likes. Luv your blog!

  2. Lil, thank you! I've had no prior experience in writing or music or showbiz or media editing - just fussy ears and a strong perfectionist streak I guess. And of course a huge love for Adam fucking Lambert! I just wish I got paid for this as it takes up so much of my life!

  3. I'm with Lil AB, you should be getting paid for doing this - you really are very professional. You have great writing skills, your vocab is exceptional (ie dry feed from the mic - I don't even know what that is!) and you really have an eye and ear for detail - catching all the nuances in his voice and costume that the rest of us miss. And I know you've been on a huge learning curve with the video and sound editing (from what you said anyway) and that shows you learn quickly and thoroughly. Well done, you!

And I love Adam's camera interaction. He takes my breath away every time. The man is just stunning. Love your blog and good luck. Adam's people should be recruiting you as Adam's UK correspondent, you do such a good job. :)

  4. jo_blue, thank you! I learned 'dry feed' off Adam when he talked about the AMA performance and the acoustics of the Nokia Theatre. It means when the direct feed from the mic is used without any added effects like echo, which you would hear if you were in the room. I think it would be OK for an acoustic song but in a synthesised dance tune it sounds a little jarring. Isn't it funny that Adam has been responsible for so much of my recent education?!

  5. AB, you're welcome. Is there no end to this man's impact on the world!! :) For myself, I was in a real music rut before he came along. Now I don't know what my life would be without him. He's single-handedly made me happy in a way that no other man ever could. :)
